Egton Bridge, the perfect location

Peaceful & rural but perfect for exploring

Set in a rural location on the edge on the North York Moors on the banks of the River Esk yet just 15 minutes from Whitby, the Horseshoe Hotel is very popular with walkers and train enthusiasts. There are several fantastic walking routes including the famous Coast to Coast trail which passes the Hotel.

Nearby coastal spots to enjoy include the traditional seaside town of Whitby, the charming fishing village of Sandsend and the beautiful sandy beaches of Robin Hood’s Bay. There are many family attractions and historic buildings to enjoy in these areas.

The fascinating steam engines of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway pass through this region and can be picked up from the nearby Goathland or Grosmont stations. Egton Bridge is in the Esk Valley, within the North York Moors National Park. The hotel itself is just a short distance from Egton train station.

The stunning Roman Catholic church of St Hedda is just a short walk away from The Horseshoe Hotel in the village of Egton Bridge. This is a popular attraction for tourists.

Walking to Grosmont

Getting to Grosmont is simple and rather lovely, the old toll road (see photo) runs between Egton Bridge and Grosmont, it takes most people approximately 30mins to walk. On route you’ll find the Old Toll House with the original sign attached.
