Spoilt for choice
Set in a rural location on the edge on the North York Moors on the banks of the River Esk, yet just 15 minutes from Whitby, The Horseshoe Hotel is very popular with walkers and train enthusiasts. There are several fantastic walking routes including the famous Coast to Coast trail which passes the Hotel.
Nearby coastal spots to enjoy include the traditional seaside town of Whitby, the charming fishing village of Sandsend and the beautiful sandy beaches of Robin Hood’s Bay & Runswick Bay.
Getting around
The fascinating steam engines of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway pass through this region and can be picked up from the nearby Goathland or Grosmont stations. Egton Bridge is in the Esk Valley, within the North York Moors National Park.
The hotel itself is just a short walk from Egton train station. The train is the Middlesborough to Whitby line and the Egton to Whitby journey is a delight and drops you in the heart of Whitby. There is also a regular bus service from the Manor House.
The steam trains run from Grosmont, which is a 1.5 mile picturesque walk through the estate along the old toll road it takes most people 30 mins to walk. On route you’ll find the Old Toll House with the original sign attached.
